Solitude Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: What is Solitude?
A: Solitude is a guild in the MMO Age of Conan on the Aquilonia server.

Q: When did Solitude start?
A: Solitude was formed in 2006 on the European World of Warcraft roleplay/PVP server "Defias Brotherhood" as an experiment in the potential of an democratic guild with no officers and consisting only of tightly-knit and skilled players. To maintain that feeling, it required that new applicants serve an extensive trial period and each existing full member had a veto on promoting any trialist up to full member. It ceased activity in 2007 as boredom with The Burning Crusade hit many of the players.

Q:
What sort of players do you have now?
A: Our players currently range from old hands who played Meridian 59 (the first graphical MMO) to new players. The age range goes from eighteen to “mature”.

Q: Why is it so hard even to join the less strict of the parts of the guild? Other guilds just invite when asked!
A: The application process - specifically a written one - is to allow us to gauge whether you are coherent and whether you want to join the guild enough to spend ten minutes posting an application. We'd rather be a small guild of good people than a rabble.

Q: What makes Solitude special?
A: Solitude's roots as an exclusive and very close guild made it excellent fun for the low-member requirements in early Burning Crusade raids. However, Age of Conan is a different game and so we have altered our structure accordingly. Solitude now operates as two separate guilds united in purpose, the "House of Solitude" and "the Chapter". The "House of Solitude" is a continuation of the original guild, and will remain small. It has a small group of people entrusted with specific responsibilities and an officer structure that allows it to integrate with "the Chapter". The "House of Solitude" focuses primarily upon roleplay, PVE and crafting. "The Chapter" is a hierarchical section of the guild that focuses its efforts upon PVP. To this end it has different and less stringent membership requirements than the "House of Solitude". Members are assigned to the "Chapters" that give the section its name. These Chapters will be run by their own leaders and expected to operate together at all times during PVP

Q: So to do PVE I have to be in one section and PVP in another?
A: No. Members of Solitude will be welcome (and in the case of major PVP, expected) to take part in most guild activities. However the responsibility for certain aspects of play is divided between the two sections as outlined above. If someone’s playstyle changes, they will be welcome to apply to the other section and, having been part of the guild as a whole, may have any relevant trial periods shortened or waived entirely (or refused very quickly!)

Q: What are your guild goals?
A: Our guild goals are simple. We wish to capture, hold and fortify a Border Keep. We will be orientating our efforts towards that goal.

Q: Do you have any guild rules?
A: Only that we abide by the server rules. This will include not breaching any roleplay etiquette. Whilst "the Chapter" will accept those who are new to roleplay and those who are very selective about when they do so, all members of Solitude will be expected to avoid breaking the immersion of others on the server. This may also apply to character names. Solitude only accepts applications from those who confirm that they are over eighteen because guild chat will not be censored. Beyond this, the sections may have their own rules. These will be detailed on their forums.

Q: How do I apply?
A: Visit the Recruitment section of the forums, here, and follow the instructions.

Q: What out-of-game resources do you have?
A: Other than this website, Solitude runs forums, a private Ventrilo server, and an imageboard designed to allow the rapid spreading of gossip about our fellow adventurers here.

Q: What is Solitude’s backstory for Age of Conan?
A: The backstory can be found here.

Q: What are your policies on alliances?
A: In-character overtures can be made via roleplay with members of the "House of Solitude". If you’re interested in an Out of Character agreement (such as the 'Hyborian Coalition' to enhance roleplay) then you can contact us via our forums.

Q: What is your policy on griefing/ganking/corpse-camping?
A: Our only stringent requirement is that our players keep within the rules of the game. In an open PVP environment, it is up to them to act as they see fit.
